Heteroousios

Of different natures. Used by Arius who thought that the Son and Father were of different natures.

Arius taught that the Father created the Son (“there was a time when the Son was not”) and therefore were of different (hetero) natures (ousios).  This view was rejected and the term homoousios was chosen to describe the orthodox position that the Father, Son and Spirit share in the same divine nature (John 1:1).
